A new-look Mundella WA Women’s Football League season is set to kick off a huge 30th year in 2017 with nine clubs represented for the first time at League level and more attention than ever on the competition that produced 36 players for the inaugural AFL Women’s season.
For the first time, Perth Angels, East Perth and last year’s Reserves premiers West Perth, will field League teams, seeing a WAWFL League side now aligned to every WAFL men’s team.

Having been previously run by the WA Football Commission since 2013, the Rogers Cup Youth Girls competition caters for female players aged 13 – 17 years.

2016 was an extremely exciting and challenging year for the Claremont Women’s Football Club. The decision to submit 2 teams in the WAWFL competition after a very successfully 1 team campaign in 2015 was not made lightly. We knew that the year would be a difficult one.
Gillon McLachlan could be a man that we could have easily hated for his statement that a National Competition for Women would commence in 2017 instead of the previously forecasted 2020. Instead his “kick in the pants” technique has probably proven to be a master-stroke. Why?

We kicked off our season against Peel Thunderbirds at Rushton Park and while we didn’t walk away with a win, we could not have hoped for a better first round experience for our teams. Thank you, Thunderbirds, for the fantastic welcome to the League and for your encouragement!
