What began as a tight wrestle for a sniff of the 2015 WAWFL reserves premiership, ended in a Joondalup victory as the Falcons held on to defeat the Coastal Titans in an absolute nail biter at ATOM Stadium.
From the first bounce, neither side could break away from the other, with the majority of play dominating the center of the ground. The closeness of the contest was reflected in the scoreboard at 1.1 (7) a piece at quarter time. Taylor Evans (Titans) and Ashton Hill (Falcons) had one goal each to this point. Coastal Titan Amy Ash held up well in defence, proving important with plenty of marks among a plethora of forward dominance from Joondalup.
Perhaps the most impressive moment of the match arrived as in the second quarter as Bella Ndayikze from Joondalup bolted inside fifty, ducked under a Titan tackle, dodged another opposition player with a side step and sent a goal strait through the middle to score her side their only goal for the quarter.
Although the third quarter only boasted two Falcon goals, it broke the game open and gave them a comfortable lead. The ball lived only in the Falcons forward 50, as the Titan half of the ground remained untouched for almost the entirety of the term.
Whilst the Falcons pushed for goals, they only managed 2.6 for the quarter, with an accuracy of only 25%, leaving the door wide open for a potential Titan comeback.
Though the Titans scored the only goal of the final quarter, with under ten minutes remaining they needed to more than double their score of 14, a score that took three quarters to achieve, in order to win.
The match was one full of energy, with the constant closeness of scores creating an exciting contest. The Falcons managed a close win in their Preliminary Final, though they will need to lift their intensity and scoreboard pressure if they’re to upset flag favourite Claremont next week.
Final Score: Joondalup Falcons 4.11 (35) def Coastal Titans 3.2 (20)
