Coastal Titans Football Club’s Kiara Bowers has won the League Division Fairest and Best being awarded the Dhara Kerr Fairest and Best at the WAWFL Medal Presentation Dinner on Monday night at the Duxton Hotel Perth.
Held in front of more than 200 guests, the Medal Presentation Dinner celebrates the WAWFL's Fairest and Best players within the competition.
President of the WA Women’s Football League Carolyn Hills opened proceedings by recognising the huge milestone celebrated this year, in that female football has been played across Australia for 100 years.
“This year the WAWFL was honoured to be a part of the celebration of 100 years of female football.
“Bounce down! was a wonderful interactive exhibition held at the WA State Library, showcasing the history of female football and its journey throughout Australia,” Carolyn said.
“The exhibition was organised by Brunette Lenkic and her committee, and we are very thankful for Brunette’s enthusiasm and commitment to this significant anniversary of female football.”
In a fantastic achievement, and now recognised as the best senior female footballer in WA, Coastal Titans Kiara Bowers was awarded the Dhara Kerr Fairest and Best. This is the fourth time Kiara has been presented the WAWFL’s highest individual award winning in 2009, 2013, 2014 and now 2015.
Bowers polled a total of 22 votes throughout the season, six ahead of teammate Emma King of Coastal Titans and nine ahead of Kara Donnellan of Swan Districts.
This achievement is simply the cherry-on-top finish for the Coastal Titans who have had an outstanding season in League, inclusive of an undefeated home-and-away season and winning the League Minor Premiership.
Joondalup’s Ashton Hill was awarded the Reserves Fairest and Best, an exciting achievement for the Falcons players who now find themselves in the Reserves Grand Final after finishing third on the ladder. Finishing on a huge 33 votes, 4-points clear of second placed Chloe Colegate of Claremont, this is the second win in consecutive years for Ashton who is now a two-time winner of the most recognised award in the Reserves division.
With 41 goals to her name for the season, the Joanne Huggins Leading Goal Scorer award was won by Coastal Titan’s Trisha Lake, earning a back-to-back-to-back title. The Reserves Leading Goal Scorer was awarded to Stephanie Yanev from Claremont who kicked 48 goals.
Also presented on the night were first year player awards with the Cath Boyce Rookie of the Year, being awarded to East Fremantle’s Erin Fox, and Reserves Rising Star award going to Brooke Hongell from Joondalup.
The Lynette Smith Volunteer of the Year award was awarded to the very deserving Charmaine Rogers from Claremont, who has also been nominated by the Claremont Football District in The Sunday Times Volunteer of the Year Award, hosted by the WAFC.
