Claremont have already taken out the minor premiership, finishing a game clear in first on the 2015 WAWFL Reserves ladder. In yesterdays blockbuster against the Coastal Titans, they went one better and took the pivotal step to make it straight to the grand final.
The last meeting between these two quality sides saw the Titans pull themselves across the line in a low scoring four point thriller in Round 15. This seemed to have faded off into the past for both sides, as Claremont redeemed themselves in style, taking control from the beginning and closing the door on a direct grand final entry for the Coastal Titans.
Though the Titans applied fierce pressure early on as the Piranhas constantly pushed forward, the later were too strong as the match eventually fell one sided.
A telling point in the match arrived as Claremont looked to again go forward, until the Titans had their first real opportunity with the ball with an inspirational tackle from Jasmine Murray to pin Claremont power forward Stephanie Yanev. In a passage which reflected the style of the entire match, the ball was again turned over as Zoe Palandri of Claremont put her team inside fifty once again.
The third quarter saw the reigning premiers become even more shaky after their half time break. Jamie Hearle was dominant for the Piranhas across the midfield and up forward, finishing with three goals to her name in a performance that would’ve ranked her high among the best players on ground.
Overall, Claremont were very dominant. The Titans saw nothing of the ball, rendering themselves mistake prone with several clangers to their name.
The intensity of this final left the Titans scratching their heads, finishing the game with only two majors and a lot to think about going into next weeks preliminary final.
It’s clear that Claremont are hungry for premiership success once again in 2015. Though it’s been three years since their last, they’re sure on track to get the job done again this season.
Final Scores: Claremont 10.7 (67) def Coastal Titans 2.2 (14)
