THE Round 10 WA Women’s Football League match of the round pits second against third as Swan Districts take on East Fremantle this Sunday at Steel Blue Oval.
With only six matches remaining before finals, four points for either side is crucial with only two wins separating first from fourth.
East Fremantle have been a story of inconsistency so far this season and come in to the match on five wins and four losses after a heavy 62-point loss to ladder leaders Coastal Titans last weekend.
The loss highlighted a problem the Sharks have had for the majority of the year – dominating those sides around them but struggling against the sides above them on the ladder.
So far they have only managed one win in four matches against the top two sides, Swan Districts and Coastal Titans, and come into this game having lost to the Swans by 71-points back in Round 4.
If the Sharks hope to break the stranglehold the Titans and Swans have on the division they will need to recapture the form that saw them defeat the Titans by one point in Round 2.
Unfortunately, their job this week becomes much harder as Swan Districts welcome back an in form Chelsea Randall after her best on ground performance for Melbourne against the Western Bulldogs last Sunday.
Randall took 14 marks and kicked 2 goals 5 against the Western Bulldogs and has proven form against the Sharks, kicking 6 goals against them when the sides last met in Round 4.
East Fremantle will also be bolstered with Mel Caulfield and Stephanie Walding returning to the line-up after lining up for the Western Bulldogs against Randall’s Demons last weekend.
Before the main game at 2:00pm, Swan Districts will meet East Fremantle in the Reserves, with a similar story unfolding in that game as well.
Like the League team, Swan Districts sit second on the ladder on percentage in the Reserves as well, while East Fremantle in sixth place are hoping for a major upset to keep their slim finals hopes alive.
If the Sharks do manage to cause an upset and other results fall their way they could be just one win away from fifth placed Mt Lawley and a genuine chance of playing in September.
The Reserves kick things off at 12:00pm with the League game taking centre stage at 2:00pm.
