The Joondalup Falcons have confirmed themselves as the strongest wawfl reserves side of 2016, outclassing their opponents in the Coastal Titans with an outstanding grand final victory by 16 points.

The 2016 minor premiers are now the official premiers, dominating the opponents at Medibank Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing.

The Titans dominated the first term, taking control in the goal scoring department by finishing at quarter time with a 15 point lead to their opponents nil.

Joondalup woke up soon after, eventually kicking seven of the next nine goals for the game.

Hayley Dixon kept the Titans within reach of clenching victory as the games leading goal scorer with three.

2014 and 2015 Reserves Best and Fairest winner and captain, Ashton Hill was impressive throughout, steering her team to the win.

It was a fired up grand final from start to finish. Fast paced and quick ball movement was as good as it had been all season.

With flawless defence from the Falcons backs, the Titans were constantly under pressure, even when they managed to hold the ball inside their forward half for large patches of the game – they simply couldn’t convert on the scoreboard.

The Titans had nine scoring shots to the Falcons six by three quarter time, but it was simply a case of Joondalup taking their opportunities with accurate kicking and scoreboard pressure.

Despite this, it was still anyones game as the margin stood at only 2 points at the final change. Though the Titans had only kicked a single goal since quarter time, they immediately had their goalscoring boots on in the opening minute of the final term with a quick goal courtesy of Chelsea Dyson. Moments later, Joondalup responded with the games standout goal courtesy of a clever snap kick out of a pack of players from Ann Mcmahon for her second.

The Titans initial last quarter surge to win seemingly ended there and then, as Joondalup took control, never looked back and continued to extend their lead.

Falcon Brooke Hongell was named best on ground, racking up plenty of the ball throughout whilst even slotting a goal of her own in true premiership winning style.

Tess Moynihan sealed the Falcons victory with the final goal of the game as the Falcons continued their unbeaten run over the Titans for 2016.

Joondalup coach Paul Beaver praised his side for their hard work throughout 2016.

“We all get around each other, we all work hard for each other on and off the field,” he said.

Joondalup have secured their first premiership win since 2007 and have truly backed up a dominant top of the ladder 2016 finish in style.
