Coastal Titans Football Club’s Kiara Bowers and Emma King have jointly won the WA Women’s Football League’s League Division Dhara Kerr Fairest and Best at the Medal Presentation Dinner on Monday night at the Duxton Hotel, Perth.

Held in front of more than 220 guests, the Medal Presentation Dinner celebrates the WA Women’s Football League’s Fairest and Best players within the competition.

President of the WA Women’s Football League Carolyn Hills opened proceedings by recognising the milestones of this season, including recognition of the 8 WAWFL players selected as marquee players for next years National Women’s League.

“This year was full of highlights that were celebrated, but you simply can’t go past the announcement of the Fremantle Dockers receiving a licence in the inaugural year of the national women’s league.”

“The likes of Bowers, Donnellan, Swanson to name a few, will become household names for girls dreaming to play in the AFL like Nic Nat and Buddy for the boys” Carolyn said.

In a fantastic achievement, and now recognised as the best senior female footballers in WA, Coastal Titans Kiara and Emma both graciously accepted the title of the Dhara Kerr Fairest and Best. This is the fifth time Kiara has won the WAWFL’s highest individual award winning in 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015 and now 2016. For Emma, this is her first WAWFL Fairest and Best award.

With Emma leading the point tally going into the last round of the home season, it was Kiara who joined her in top spot, gaining three points in their game against Claremont, whilst Emma collected just one point. The teammates, who stole points from each other throughout the season, finished one point ahead of East Fremantle’s Brianna Green who finished on 20 points.

Perth Angels Jennifer Homes was awarded the Reserves Fairest and Best, a brilliant achievement for the first year player who also claimed the Reserves Rising Star, an award recognising the best first year player in the competition. Finishing on 21 votes, 3 clear of second placed Ashton Hill of Joondalup Falcons, this is the first time a Perth Angels player has won a Fairest and Best award, in a season that has seen the team develop strongly on and off the field.

With 51 goals to her name for the season, the Joanne Huggins Leading Goal Scorer award was won by Coastal Titan’s Amy Lavell. The Reserves Leading Goal Scorer was awarded to Tyhara Garlett from Joondalup who kicked 35 goals.

Also presented on the night were first year player awards with the League Cath Boyce Rookie of the Year, being awarded to Claremont’s Jasmin Stewart, with the Reserves Rising Star award going to Jennifer Homes from Perth Angels.

The Lynette Smith Volunteer of the Year award was awarded to the very deserving Sally Allomes from South Fremantle. With over ten years dedication to the League, and South Fremantle Women’s Football Club, Sally is an asset to the growth and development of the WAWFL.
