A convincing win has seen East Fremantle put their best foot forward as genuine premiership threats, defeating the Coastal Titans by 27 points at Lathlain stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Titans entered the WAWFL in 2004 and have since amassed seven historical premierships as one of the powerhouse units of the competition. Not once have they missed a single grand final, with season 2016 ending that outstanding run.

Despite the margin, the intensity of this final saw large patches of play where little or no goal scoring took place – both teams had come to play.

Latoya Wallace opened up the games scoring by running into an open goal to put the Sharks on the board - it was from there that they never looked back.

Play was momentarily stopped when Lara Filocamo had to leave the ground after coming off second best in a heavy contest collision.

The game was highly contested throughout the middle, but it was the Sharks who had the goal scoring goods. Two first half goals to Wallace and a single to Melissa Caulfield set them up for the win, but they could’ve lead by more – the Titans defence remained fearless and held up well.

The reigning premiers were in deep strife at half time, as the Titans hadn’t scored a single goal.

Emma King impressed for the Titans in the ruck, whilst Latoya Wallace made all the difference in the Sharks fierce ball attack and pivotal movement up forward as one of the best on ground.

Cassie Davidson and Samara David added two more goals to the Sharks tally in the third term, with David’s goal arriving right on the three quarter time siren.

The Titans came out firing in the final term, winning the first centre clearance in style, culminating in a strong contested mark and goal courtesy of Aimee Schmidt. They needed to mount an incredible comeback to win, but despite winning the final quarter by five points, it was simply not enough as they wouldn’t kick any more goals.

The Sharks ball use was as good as it has been all season, hitting targets and dominating their opposition in the execution of defensive tackles and pressure all round.

Having convincingly won the last two weeks’ worth of finals, the Sharks will take confidence into their grand final meeting against Swan Districts to challenge for their first premiership since 2011.
