WA v Victoria Women’s State Game

WESTERN Australia will host Victoria in a women’s football showcase at Domain Stadium at 3pm on Friday afternoon as the curtain raiser to the Fremantle v Richmond AFL game.

The fixture will follow the success of the AFL Women’s Exhibition Game at the MCG on May 24 and feature 30 star players from both of the teams that represented Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.

WAWFL Board looks to fill vacant positions

The WAWFL is currently looking for nominations to fill two vacant positions on the WAWFL Board.

The WAWFL are currently seeking expressions of interest for
1) Secretariat support position (to the President)
2) General Board Member

Both positions will be occupied until the 2015 AGM held in November.  At the AGM the positions will become vacant and members will be eligible for re-election.

Exhibition celebrating 100 years of women’s football

An exhibition to celebrate 100 years of women’s football is now showing at the State Library of Western Australia.

Bounce Down: Women's Australian Rules Football Centenary, is open every day until July 31, 2015 in the Ground Floor Gallery at the State Library in the Perth Cultural Centre, Northbridge.  

The free exhibition explores the 100 year history of women’s Australian Rules football in Western Australia and beyond.

Inaugural Mathew Nicholas memorial game

This Sunday the Mount Lawley and Claremont women’s football teams will start a new tradition as they take the field to play in the inaugural Mathew Nicholas memorial game.

In a fixture that is forecast to take part on an annual basis, the memorial match looks to take place the first time the Mount Lawley and Claremont teams meet each season, in memory of ex-Mount Lawley coach Mathew (Mat) Nicholas.

Mat was the Mount Lawley Reserves coach for the 2014 season and was highly committed to the women’s team, constantly pushing the players to reach their best and strive for excellence in their football.

Melbourne v Western Bulldogs Women’s Game

AFL Website to broadcast first AFL Women’s Match

Jason Bennett will host and call both matches and is excited to be involved. He met two players involved in the game, Katie Brennan (Western Bulldogs) and Elise O'Dea (Melbourne) last week.

WA claim third in Youth Girl National Championship

WESTERN Australia finished its 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships with a second straight win over Victoria Country on Friday at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia.

After losing its opening two games of the Youth Girls National Championships as defending champions, WA finished on a high beating Vic Country both on Thursday and then again on Friday to end up finishing in third position in Pool A for the week.

Defending champions claim first win

WESTERN Australia  won its first game of the 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships, with the defending champions beating Victoria Metro by 24 points to conclude Day 3 at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia.

Both WA and Vic Country had lost their opening two matches of the Youth Girls National Championships to Vic Metro and Queensland respectively, and it was the defending champions and hosts who prevailed 6.2 (38) to 2.2 (14) to close proceedings on Thursday.

QUEENSLAND won its second straight match and handed Western Australia a second consecutive loss to conclude Day 2 of the 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia.

Queensland kicked the first three goals of the game to get off to a strong start and with Melbourne Demons women's AFL player Tayla Harris dominating the game at centre half-back they went on to record the strong 6.9 (45) to 2.2 (14).

2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships

The 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships will kick off in Mandurah on Monday, May 4 with eight teams from around Australia competing for national honours across two divisions.

The Championships will be played in Western Australia for the first time following the WA Football Commission’s successful bid to host the event at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah.

WA will be defending its national title in Pool A after last year becoming the first female team ever to defeat Victoria at a national championship.

WAWFL to support One Life Round

Grand Final re-match to open WAWFL season
